Safe

At the front door of the ryokan I stayed at on my trip to Izumo.

"Safe" in calligraphy.

A lot of characters that make you feel at ease, like a talisman, like a local grandmother. Greeted by this letter, being sent off, we enter and leave the entrance, but how many travelers have seen this letter, pushed their backs on their way, and were relieved when they returned. I wonder.

I imagine the years of letters that have been silently calling out to traveler since long ago.
